Matraco’s Nyagishiru Coffee Washing Station in Burundi’s Muyinga region processes coffee from approximately 850 local farming families. The station is equipped with a Mackinnon pulper and 200 raised drying beds.

Matraco shows a strong commitment to the community, paying farmers a 20% premium above market rate and staff wages 60% higher than the national average. They also support local growers by donating seedlings and composted coffee pulp fertilizer.

Founder Zuberi Matsitsi began Matraco with a transport truck fleet. Since expanding into coffee production in 2015, Matraco still uses its own logistics, ensuring close quality oversight in a challenging transportation area.

In the cup we experienced the tart and bright characteristics of red currant, the bold sweetness of dark chocolate, and the rich, gentle nuttiness of hazelnut brings it all together. We are very excited to share this coffee so be sure to try it while we still have some!
